Has anyone pursued experimental amateur built registration of a Lazair in the USA?

Seems like any two seaters down here wouldn't qualify as ultralights anymore.

According to FAR Part 103 the Lazair 2 (two-seater) was never a legal ultralight. It was an ultralight trainer that could be operated under an exemption which of course no longer exists with the creation of the light sport rule. It does not qualify for that either because of the twin engines so the only way to legaly fly the two place in the US is as an experimental.

That is exactly what I've done with mine. My kit is registered as N34LZ and has it's airworthiness certificate and I've got the repairman's certificate so that I can do the maintenance on it. The whole process was a royal pain in the ass, but I was lucky to have a good DAR in my local area who helped me out a lot.
