Same topic as was discussed here a few weeks ago.
If you not able to sense and recover from a spin or a stall, get some
training. If not stay on ground.

GRIM AFTERMATH : Steve Brooks of ABA Auto Wreckers examines what
remains of a Challenger ultralight aircraft that crashed Sunday near
Keene, killing both its occupants.

A man and woman from Fergus, Ontario died Sunday afternoon when their
ultralight plane spiraled into a farmer's field just west of Keene.

Peterborough County OPP Senior Constable Robert LaFreniere said
witnesses watched as the plane's wings folded upward and the aircraft
plummeted into a field near Duncan's Line and McGregor Bay Road.

Peter Mezciems, 56, was flying the plane, accompanied by Laurie
Nicholl , also 56.

"People in the area were drawn to the sound of the light aircraft,"
says Sr. Const. LaFreniere.

"Someone said they heard the engine stall and saw the plane turn
around."

Moments later, another witness noticed the wings buckle, adds Sr.
Const. LaFreniere. The Challenger 2 ultralight then went into a
downward spiral.

The plane came down in a farmer's field. When contacted by
Peterborough This Week, the property owner was uncomfortable speaking
about the crash.

Parts of the plane were gathered Friday night and towed to a yard
near Fraserville.

Sr. Const. LaFreniere says he has no idea why the pilot was in this
area and what caused the crash.

Transport Canada has been notified and the investigation continues.

Anyone find out what really happened?? Any Reports yet? It is very sad but true that we can all learn from such accidents. I hope all of you go out and practice stalls. I have never got my Lazair to spin and John and I have tried.

A Challenger will spin if held into the stall long enough. John is a level 1 instructor for general aircraft with over 14,000 hrs. He is also a Transport Canada flight test examiner. He feels very upset when he hears of such accidents. Proper training and the mental part of flying is so important.

If any of you ever want any advise re stalls or spins, give John a call.

Would a ballistic chute not have helped here? This is really sad...

this accident i understand was a control rod to elevator failure.
The owner (pilot) apparanlyl did modifications to extend this rod to get he stick away from his larger than normal stomach.

there may of been binding and the rod would bend a bit and finally broker at the orginal holes where it was extended. The binding went un noticed and finally this part may of broke because of this. Unfortunatly endingi n death of pilot and passenger.
