question about serial number and series

Hi there!
I recently purchased a used Lazair s/n TC187, d.o.m. Aug.1981.
I would like to know if this is series I or II, as the previous owner was not sure.
He bought it used and flew it only "once or twice".
This aircraft has rudder pedals, wide landing gear (with plastic wheels
outside of downtubes), overhead control stick, older type engines(Pioneer
I think), and single props.
I am trying to gather as much information as I can about this particular model. If anyone out there has any information they could share I would appreciate hearing from you.

Sounds like a late Series 2 that was upgraded with the Series 3 wide gear. Only way to tell for sure is for you to post some pictures of the plane.

If you are looking for Lazair information this is the only place on the net to get it.

Hi,
That's the same year mine is and I know mine is a series 2. My serial # is A471, so yours might be a series 1 with updates done to it. The wide landing gear is very nice for ground handling.
Maybe you can post us a picture, to help us tell you, for sure what series yours is.
Regardless, you are in for a lot of fun!

Thank you for your response!
My plane is presently in storage, dismantled for the winter.
When the warmer weather hits, I will take some pictures,
and post them. Presently my wings my are uncovered. I am
trying to decide whether to recover with Stits Polyfiber uncertified
light fabric or one of the clear films. Do you have any suggestions
or preferences? I would appreciate your advice.
Do you have any interesting pictures of your own aircraft?

Hi low`n slow,
You can find a picture of me under Pilots Lounge on the second page. You will see that I have done a lot of factory mods to mine. I still have it and am now upgrading to Solo engines w/redrives 2.5:1. I haven't flown since about 1989 where I had one flight over my new house (I was building at the time). I had mylar on my plane for abour 4 years and love the looks of mylar. Only trouble is, that it's a lot of work to replace it. I went with tedlar and that's what's on the plane now. The plane has always been hangered or in a enclosed trailer for it's entire life and it shows! The tedlar is now almost 20 years old and is still tight, I feel I won't have to replace it when I checked it recently. I will inspect it again when I get the wings in the garage. Jpxman figures it's ok too.
Are you a pilot? Have you flown any ultralights at all? If not, you are in for a real treat. I love it when I get it up in the air. I usually stay up until I nearly run out of fuel. Sometimes I wish I had a 20 gallon tank! Daffy :ph34r:
