:blink: Ok I was reading old post and saw Dale was curious as to what members actually own a Lazair and who flies. So Lets start a posting if you fly and what you fly as well as if you own a lazair or not.

I have a Cessna 172 and Glasair tail dragger (about to be sold)
No Lazair yet but looking for one. I really want a 2 seater, but who doesn't?
Future plans I'm hoping to get a 2 seater and put it on floats.

Have lazair elite with 18hp solo 210's. totally restored, will be flying come spring. :D

I fly my brother's series III whenever I can and right now I have about 50 hours in it. I just got a two-place and I absolutely cannot wait to get it in the air. I also have a Pterodactyl Ascendter II that is for sale.

I attached a photo of my office. This is a landing at Boston Medical Center. The helo pad is about 200' up in the air and the windows on the building have mirrors.....distracting when you are concentrating on short final!

Hi lazairkid,
I am adapting Solo engines to my 1981 Lazair. Can you send me pictures of how you mounted your engines? I hope to be flying soon as well. I am keeping my engines stock at about 14 hp. each and with redrives, I will be running 44" props. Are you direct drive? Thanks, Daffy :P

I built and own a modified 1979/80 Series 1, serial #25, with modified Pioneer engines with homemade redrives, props, mounts, exhaust, etc. (Dale's quite familiar with this plane). I've flown it about 450 hours (IIRC without looking it up). I also now own (just purchased) a 1984 Series III EC, serial # unknown, built by a Lazair dealer in BC, with 185 Rotax engines. Both currently need maintanence to be flow safely.

Off topic, but I also would be interested in your mounting of the Solos. I've noticed that some of the back pack fans for the paragliders that use the Solos have a purpose built engine crankcase casting with redrive provisioned. Purchasing the cases and redrive components would be ideal, but quite expensive.

Ultraflight had a factory demo plane fitted with redrive Solos back in 1983, IIRC, and it was quite the performer at the time.

I own and fly a series 2. I picked it up two years ago in Michigan. Brought it to Utah and have flown all over northern Utah and southern Idaho. I have logged 257 hours since I started flying it in April of 04. Dale, if you're ever in Utah, George C. and I would love to visit with you. I'm at N41.47.26 W111.51.16, George is at N40.08.50 W111.39.68

Today I had a wonderful flight. I love flying my Lazair. I have my pilot's license and have flown Cessnas and Pipers. I have flown other ultralights as well. Nothing, I mean, NOTHING compares to the freedom and the feeling I get when I'm in my Lazair. I feel safe, I feel free, I feel happy. Thank you Dale Kramer and others that worked at Ultraflight, Ray for the flywheel, Shannon for the expertise, George C. and Mark K. for their support, Lonnie for the P-tips, and everyone else here for their help. Without you all, Lazairs would Dinosars. Instead, they will last a very long time.

Thanks everyone, those 2.7 hours today were wonderful (and cold!). Landed only because of the disappearing daylight (the building season is fast approaching - this winter's build list will be conversion to series 3 gear WITH brakes - no more feet and ankles to run over. Also would like to recover).

This is a great thread.

I still have six or so Lazairs, all in strorage except my Elite amphib and remember I owned every one of your Lazairs at one point in their lives (lol).

Lazairs I have:

1 The prototype
2 Series II demonstrator
3 Series III demonstrator
4 Lazair II KFM
5 Lazair Elite (first and only fully assembled Lazair made in factory jigs)
6 Lazair Elite monohull amphib

Dale I'm kind of shocked to find out you dont own a 2 seater. Since they are so rare I would have thought you of all people would have had one still.
