I just sold 2 Lazairs recently... used to be a dealer way back when...

So... looking into old file cabinets... I found that I did save most of my old
Adirondack Windsports files... first named Ultralight East...

I started out with a 15' 80 degree nose homebuilt hang glider...
Went to college RIT... Paul Yarnell fame.. (he made reduction drives for Easy Risers)
I then bought and built in the college dorms an Easy Riser... with direct drive McCulloch go cart motor... 28" wood prop..Still have this plane in poor shape.

Next dealer for Lazair... my plane series 1 Pioneer engines... added ezpansion chambers.. 5 mil UV mylar, fat tires... new lll seat.
After that more lazairs for me...

and on...

some sold planes...

this Series lll was registered briefly with the FAA

Jan 18 1984 N4486N Built full mylar and tube enclosure with door... had an instrument panel, lites...

The idea of this plane was to log my flying hours to build hours toward future licenses... then the FAA figure out some of us were doing this... and they sent out a notice that the hours logged in a registered ultralight would not be counted! So... I dropped the registration...

Sold To Richard Wheeler... Richard removed the enclosure and inst. panel

If I learn how to.. I will post pic with this post if the site allows editing of existing posts...

Looks like Tyler may be able to get a few more kit numbers for the registry. Maybe he'll get a chance to update it soon. hint hint nudge nudge

Bill, Romanazi's old Lazair isn't out at Argyle, that's my brother's series III. (A951) He doesn't get back to fly it that often so my uncle Mike Shearer and I fly the heck out of it for him. Richard Wheeler was flying a Lazair (Ted Strater's machine) up until a last year, but he sold his to Art in downstate NY. Art's in the process of fixing it up real nice.

Hi Bill,

I'd love to see pictures of the tube and Mylar enclosure you built if you have any.

Did you ever see Paul Yarnell's one bladed propeller on his Riser? Man, that was a while ago.

BTW, I recently saw that you can buy NEW Easy Riser Kits again from Larry Mauro!

Chappy... pics...yes... I have them...coming soon... need to scan them...

As to Paul.. I saw most of his work along with most of Rutan's early work...

I was in Rutans hanger out in the Mojave Desert... saw huge plane parts...looked like some sort of glider... turned out to be the prop plane he sent his bro around the world in... Another hero of mine...

Did you ever see Rutan do he huge loops and rolls in his special EZE? If you ever flew an Eze... they are like flying with only trim control for pitch... so were the Falcons... great planes... but boring to me... I need quick pitch to have fun in a plane... I just love to terrain track inches up...toss in a loop and I all smiles...

I never saw that, but I have flown a Vari-Ease, and I sure didn't like it all that much. It was a very early one, the engine transfered lots of vibration and noise, visability on approach was disappointing, and the canard flexed and shock, it was very hot inside in the summer sun, and just unconfortable and tight feeling. Not something I would be interested in owning. Too many tradeoff for a little speed.

Do you stay in touch with Paul? I wonder what he's up to nowadays.

Chappy... I just googled for Paul... I did not stay in touch... I came up with a possible at LVS Systems

It is something he would do....
