How about a Lazair for

Shawn,

You may want to drop a note to Gene Yarbrough. I believe he had a project going a few years back to recreate the Lazair design with the intent to sell kits. I'm not sure how far he got, but may have some research and drawings he's willing to share.

He was billing his project under the name of Piedmont Ultralights

Good luck...it would be awsome to have a Lazair sim on MS2004!

Thanks for the info John, I'll send Gene an e-mail. My only concern would be loading some actual blueprints and finding out that I was no where even close :) and having to start over :( I do have a question though, how do the flight controls on this aircraft work? From what I could tell the earlier models had different control inputs than the later models. On the Lazer III there are flight controls for yaw, pitch, and roll but I can't figure out how the elavator/rudder would be used to control pitch.

Just a quick video I uploaded to Yahoo video, showing the current progress with the Lazair. Lazair, float and wheels sorry about the quality...

Thanks Tyler, I still have a fair bit of work to do but it's good to know I'm on the right track. If anyone's interested in doing some beta testing and could offer some feedback I would be happy to send you a copy of what I have so far. It would be nice to get some feedback from an actual Lazair owner who knows what the aircraft should look like.

You have a really good idea in creating a Lazair for Flight Simulator.  I don't know how deep you want to get into this, but there are several versions of the Lazair.

Series I
Series II
Series III
Series IIIEC (has a full enclosure.  looks really cool)
Lazair II (two seat version)

They are all similar and the good news is that all have the same shape wing.  The two-place is side by side so it just has a wider center section with the same wings for a total wingspan of 38'.  Although I've got a two-seater, I would suggest a stock series III with rotax 185s for your design.  The owners manual for the series III is readily available on-line to help you out too.  Here's a pic of a stock series III.

If you need assistance you can always send me a PM,

Dave

A somewhat more accurate list of all the Series of the plane would be as follows:

Series I
Series II
Series III
Series IIIEC
Elite
Elite EC
Lazair II
Lazair IIEL
SS
SS EC
Sprayzair

I have been extremely busy with work for the last few months and haven't been able to get anything done on the Lazair. It's still in the works and very close to completion, hopefully I will be able to get it finished in the next few weeks. It will be loosely based on the Series III but I use the term loosely, very liberally :P
