I am planning to re-engine my Lazair II because of the lack of parts and support issues with the JPX PUL 425. I am looking for some used Konig 430s to put on it. If you know of some that are available, or if you know of website that may have info, I would like to hear about it.

I am not opposed to other suitable engines out there in the 20-25 HP range.

Konig parts are near impossible to find....except for the new one which is big $$$
I think a new Konig 430 costs about $3500.00 since they are basically custom made one at a time.

You want to use one of these:

Zenoah G-25: http://www.tn-prop.com/g25b.htm

Hirth F-33 or F-36: http://www.recpower.com/F33.htm

http://www.recpower.com/f36.htm

Simonni: http://www.simonini-flying.com/mini3_eng.htm

KFM 107: http://www.homebuilt.org/vendors/powerp ... luppi.html

I think the Zenoah G-25 is the most inexpensive and common in the US.

The Hirth F-33 has 1000 hr TBO and is not to pricey & F-36 is not to over powered and is lighter.....I'd say these are the best quality bang for your buck.

KFM's are not produced anymore but I think the links above still have parts and used engines available.

Ray,

Thanks for the good info. Your right about new Konigs from Compact Radial Engines, $3500. Ouch. I really like the Hirth F33, but some Zenoah's also have a flat torque curve. Zanzattera makes some real nice and lightweight engines and they have started to get a good following too.

There are a lot of neat new engines out there, but I believe that there is some thing to be said for keeping the plane original with powerplants that were available at the time.....JPX, KFM, Konig, Zenoah, ect. For example, you wouldn't put a brand new sports car engine in a Ford model T.

One thing is for certain, at some point I will need to commit to either the JPXs or move on to something else. If you have something or know of some other engines out there, please let me know......

:D I have two KFM's 25Hp that come off my Elite for sale. Direct drive
34x20 Tennessee props
E-start
tuned chrome dual exhausts
All you have to do is hook up electrics
I just payed 2G's for one 15Hp engine and steal half to mount it some how.
so $1000.00 each is not bad for all you get.
See pic below :)
