I was the one receiving the samples, and yes, I have received a sample of the covering and initially it looks good, but they make this material with a very high gloss side and a matte side that looks similar to the Tedlar we are all used to. The process is called etching (matte side), and they said they could do both sides if we needed them to. What I'm waiting on now is their tapes made out of the same material to test on the sample sheets I was sent. I will also try my Tedlar tapes too. If the tape holds as well on the glossy side as it should on the etched side, and holds like my Tedlar tape, then the Mylar guys will be very happy to have a covering that is glossy, but holds up like Tedlar. We have looked over their reports of UV stability and it looks very promising, but the cost is actually more than Tedlar. Not by much, but maybe 15-20% more I'd guess.

I'll report more when I have the tape and can test all materials together. I will also be doing a shrink test to see how it compares to Tedlar.

I'll report and make a personal assessment, but ultimately it will be up to you to decide if you want to try it. I'm sure we would all like to have another clear covering alternative to the often times difficult to get Tedlar. I know Tedlar is available right now, but it's not always available.

Another covering Choice...

My first lazair when I became a dealer for Ultraflight... was a series 1
Covering 2mil mylar... went bad tied in summer sun in 2 months
Searched Thomas in libary for nearby mylar supplier... found..
5 mil UV stabilized mylar slight metalic tint from the UV coating
put in on the top surface only... worked very well for 2 years\
then sold the plane...

This means that in a hanger the lifespan would be very acceptable.

I may have the supplier info in my files... anyone interested?
