To answer your question about the number of pull throughs:

A local snowmobile mechanic suggested we pull the engine through three compression cycles. The simple compression gauge accumulates the pressure. But because it may not beable to read the full amount the first time due to restrictions in the presssure relief valve (?) you pull it through a few times until it peaks. Three is just a standard number?

We use the differential compression guage that Chappy talks about on the (full sized) aircraft engines but we have not tried it on the R-185s yet. Compression tests are usually done at 80 psi.
