Nice jig George. Lots of vibration there. Do I need to ask if you will you safety wire the nuts as well?

Karl,

I thought of safety wiring them but since I was taking them on and off frequently there for a while while finishing up the build, I thought I'd just try LockTite and see if they had any tendancies to loosen up, and so far they have held tight. You tighten the top and bottom nut onto the bracket and use the LockTite and I have checked it during each pre-flight and have been very happy to find them still just as tight as they were when they were installed. I may at some point saftety wire them, but right now they are not.

Great link George, and lots of nice fittings.
You know, another option to safety wiring that you could use can be the use of tabbed washers. That would involve making a small slot in the bracket, but less hassle overall and no need for wire. It makes a great mechanical lock- one tab bent into the slot, and another bent up against the nut. It has possibilities.

Karl,

You were asking about the spinner backplate. The number on my spinner backplate is different than the number in the parts layout section of the manual. So I assume the plates were updated some time after the manual was written. Mine cracked but it may have been after part of the spinner departed the engine. the engine ran very rough when the spinner was out of balance. I was 1/2 way between two airports so I turned around and flew the 10-12 miles back to the airport I had departed from. It was a tense return flight on one and a half engines.
Keep the spinners centered and balanced.
I removed the spinners as per the technical bulletin.
I will machine up new spinner backplates when I get the time.

Is the threaded portion just hammered on with the pin punch?
