Does Reg,s Air Cooled Engines in Surrey , B.C. still exist and how to contact??

No, unfortunatley Reg passed away a few years ago.

What are you looking for?

Where are you and what series are you flying?

I am in Lake Charles La.. I have a Series Two I purchased in kit form and built in 1983 or close. I would like to know a good place to send the 185's to have electronic ignitions put on them. I saw an ad recently in an ultralight paper that said they would do this on any Rotax for $225.00 each. I can not find the ad again. It was in Arz. I had sold this plane to a Police Officer 7 years ago and just bought it back. He left it in a barn for all those years and I am fixing to recover it and go flying.

I'm not sure he's done the little 185; let us know if he has/will modify them. I had a friend years ago that had a 477 that Steve modified. He used snow mobile components. It performed very well.

You can get the do it yourself conversion kit from Wildfire for 299.50

Tell them its for your Mark-3 pump, as they will not sell it to you for other purposes, especially not aircraft.

The conversion comes with a new flywheel, stator/pickup coils(under flywheel) a spark coil/CDI unit and spark plug lead/cap.

Its everything you need, and designed exclusively for the Rotax 185.

It also has a spark advance curve built in which will cause the engine to develop a bit more power and be smooth from Idle to full power.

Apparently it runs a little rough for the first 15 seconds after a start and then runs smooth. (perhaps the electronics need to initialize)

Ray,

If these CDI units come with a new flywheel, have you checked them out to see if the starter cup will still mount on the back of it, and stay in alignment with the pulley?

I haven't got one yet, but I am fairly certain that it does fit since the Mark-3 also uses a similar if not identical pull start assembly.

I may have to do a little shimming if not.

I suspect that its the same flywheel with different magnet locations.

I'll confirm this once I get some units in.

Im committed one way or another in any case.
