Here is a place I picked a batch of rivets from.

Good stuff and a good price.

Karl,

This site has 3M tape listed in their product line. Have you asked them if they can sell 3M (and not by the ton)?

Chappy,

I totaly agree about making changes to the design. And if some one does make a change, they should have a darn good reason for doing it. I used cherrymax rivets on a Hummel CA-2 with good sucess, but I guess I was mostly curious what you guys thought about them. They have a small grip range so you have to be very careful. I used them strickly on gussets and structurally important areas and I used avex rivets on the skin. Avex rivets are relavently cheap, have a wide grip range, and pull real nice. It's hard to argue with that combination!

I agree, the AVEX rivets are so nice to use, and fit and work so well, that after you use them you'll never want to use regular old aluminum Pop-Rivet brand pop-rivets again!

Hi Russel,

If you or someone else can give me the tape part number, I'll give them a call and see if it is available.

When I was working on the Challenger biz jet, the specs called for Cherrylock and Cherrymax rivets to be used on some structural areas on the nose section: all latches for the avionics doors, (mainly due to inaccessability for a bucking bar), some skin to frame attachments, and some on the radome.
I found them to be good rivets and they made a good solid joint when the specs and tolerances were followed. The stem locking collar was the only sensitive area, and the specs I followed said to replace any rivets with any damage to the collar.

My single wish for a change in the Lazair would be to have a little more headroom!
At 6'3", it is an interesting slide into the seat. Maybe when I get the second plane set up with the higher from the ground wide track gear, I will be able to lay off my Chinese contortion teacher! Hee hee!
